Good morning friends. It’s a beautiful 54 degrees here in Lusk! Though it was great sleeping weather last night, hang onto your hat because todays projected high is sweltering 102 degrees! Hopefully you can find a nice cool spot where you practice the 11th Commandment this afternoon. What is the 11th Commandment you ask? According to the Dutch folks we served with in South Dakota it reads this way, “Thou shall take a nap!”
A quick note for today. May I encourage you to do two very important things today? First, go to church, you are needed there. Without you being there, a special member of the family will be missing. Please know, at your church today there is someone who needs you to be there, and you need to be there because someone has been appointed to be your special blessing. Please don’t miss either!
Second: I would like to encourage you to go to church and give your pastor a special message. Be sure to tell your pastor: “I just want you to know that I appreciate you, and I’m praying for you today as you lead our congregation.” In 1 Timothy 5:17 we read, “The elders who rule well are to be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who work hard at preaching and teaching.” (Remember, two weeks ago we talked about pastors being elders within the local congregation.)
The word “honor” literally means to be “highly valued.” May I suggest that some of the ways that we can give our pastors “double honor” is to pay them well, to respect them, to pray for them and especially to thank them for their service to His kingdom and your community. Let you pastor know that you appreciate his leadership and kindness. So today, thank him specifically for something that you appreciate about his ministry within your community.
If your Heavenly Father has sent you a good pastor, let today be the day that you tell him just how much you appreciate him! Thanks for doing that.
